Dreaming with Open Eyes: 12" x 36"

$550.00

When I was young and school was about to let out for summer, one of the things I looked forward to most was reading my summertime days away: immersing myself in books that whisked me away on travels to foreign lands and introduced me to new concepts and characters. Reading allowed me to dream with my eyes open.

Yes, I was that dreamy, closeted nerdy kid you knew about, but didn't truly "know."

This latest fabric collage was inspired by the idea of enriching and expanding young minds through reading. The magical escapism found in books tends to be underrated, and with the advent of advanced technological options both for us and for our children, underutilized. Reading also builds vocabulary, increases empathy, and introduces the reader to new innovations and ideas that they can apply later in life.

As renowned journalist Margaret Fuller once said, “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”

This raw edge fabric collage is comprised of hundreds of cotton fabric swatches that have been adhered to a stretched canvas and steamed permanently into place.
