I’m testing out a smaller format for fun, affordability, and for folks with limited wall space. Let’s see how this goes, shall we?
Ever since I began creating fabric collages, I’ve used the same cardboard box to toss tiny bits and pieces of scrap fabric in that eventually get discarded. Why do I use the same box year after year? Who knows? There’s absolutely nothing remarkable about the box.
I’ve also taken to pasting larger, sticky-backed fabric swatches to the outside of the box in the hopes of using them for a collage in the future.
This morning, as I plunked myself down to create a new collage, I took a look at the box that I typically ignore and wondered what, if anything, I could create out of the remnants adhered to the outside of said box.
And that’s precisely how this petite 8”x8” geranium collage was born: from discarded fabric pieces patiently waiting for their turn to bloom.
Trash was turned into treasure.
Truth be told, it feels sort of magical.
This fabric collage was created from raw edge cotton swatches backed with adhesive that were positioned on a stretched canvas and then steamed into place.
Geraniums generally symbolize friendship, domestic harmony, and good health. What a lovely symbol to bring joy and comfort to your home!
