When I began this fabric collage, I immediately thought of a book I often read to my young boys, clad in their footed pajamas, as late fall morphed into winter. It was a charming picture book written by Karen Elisa Lotz called "Snowsong Whistling", which celebrated the imminent first snow of the season with singsong rhymes like:
"There's a crisp in the air
From I-don't-know-where
But it might be
A snowsong whistling"
I named this piece "Snowsong Sung," reflecting the final words that Lotz uses to conclude the book.
This raw edge fabric collage is comprised of cotton fabric that has been backed by adhesive, adhered to a stretched canvas, and steamed permanently into place. Paper snowflakes were then affixed on top of the fabric.
